Days 10 & 11 Putting Aside the ‘Shoulds’

When I began the 31 day writing challenge, I had every intention of posting daily. When it was becoming evident that I was running out of time, had a case of the ‘shoulds’. You know – those things that you feel that you should do even if it’s not in your best interest, or it takes priority over things. I’m not talking about talking about the ‘must do’s’, but those things that you feel like you need to do, mostly because you’ll feel guilty if you don’t. The list is endless, and it’s different for everyone.

My should for yesterday and today is that I should be writing a blog post. However I was at Disneyland from sun up to midnight yesterday, and to stop and write a post would mean to take time out of fun with my friends – an interruption of important time spent.

So today I want you to think about what are some of your ‘shoulds’ and what can you set aside? And even more so, what important or significant things are you giving up by guiltily sticking to your list of shoulds? Are you missing those precious moments with your family or friends because you continue to do things you think you should do? If you were to let go of one today, what would it be?

My should for today is I feel like I should write a post for each day of the 31 days. Like I should sit down and concentrate and make an effort to write about the next subject on my list. However I’m letting go of that with no guilt. I’m writing this as I’m in line for Toy Story Midway Mania at California Adventure, with one of my best friends for the last 20 years. Letting go of the shoulds for something more important.

Tell me: what is One should you wish you could let go of? And what would you get by letting go?

  1. Don’t get bogged down by the guilt! Embracing life is far more important than sticking to a blog schedule. Hope you had a blessed time with friends and found time to relax and enjoy the blessings of everyday life!

  2. It looks like you had a great time. Living life with the people we care about is WAY more important than some blog post you can do when you’re not at the greatest place on earth! Have fun and enjoy!!
